Regelmatig hoor ik mensen zeggen: "Ik weet nooit wat ik moet bidden." Mijn antwoord is dan: "Wat jij wil. Wat wil jij bidden? Wat wil je graag zeggen tegen God? Wil je iets vragen, wil je hem ergens voor bedanken, wil je gewoon zeggen wat je van hem vindt?"
Met God mogen we persoonlijk omgaan en van hart tot hart communiceren. Als ik eerlijk ben, vind ik het moeilijk om vanuit mijn verstand te bidden, en word ik er steeds slechter in. Daarmee bedoel ik, dat ik geen idee heb "wat goed is om te zeggen tegen God", hoe je 'hoort' te bidden, of welke zinnen of woorden het goed doen in een gebed. Geen flauw idee.
Als ik bid, ben ik meestal eventjes bezig om contact te leggen. Contact met God, en contact met mijn eigen hart. Dan begin ik vanuit mijn hart te praten tegen God, zeg ik alles wat ik maar tegen God wil zeggen. Soms hou ik dan ook niet meer op en ratel ik aan één stuk door. Als er anderen bij zijn, moet ik mezelf vaak stop zetten. "Wacht even, Gijs. De anderen willen ook bidden."
Gelukkig ben ik vaak ook een tijdje stil. Dan luister ik naar wat God te zeggen heeft. Soms hoor ik niks. Soms hoor ik van alles. Niet met mijn oren, maar met mijn hart. Dan besef ik en voel ik dat God geen verzinsel is, maar dat hij werkelijk bestaat en tot ons spreekt.
